Scientific Counter: automatically count and measure objects in digital images
Scientific Counter supports automated image analysis whenever many similar structures need to be counted reliably: for example bacterial colonies, cells, particles, pores, holes, or inclusions. The software combines flexible image preprocessing, object separation, manual review, and reproducible result output.

Typical applications
Count colonies and cells
For mutagenicity tests, colony counting, cell counting, and comparable lab tasks where similar objects must be detected in image series.
Measure particles and structures
Objects are not only counted, but also described by area, perimeter, Feret diameter, shape factor, convexity, solidity, and additional parameters.
Analyze pores, holes, and inclusions
Dark or bright image regions can be evaluated. Images can be inverted, color channels selected, and analysis areas restricted as needed.
Why Scientific Counter?
- Flexible detection: color-channel selection, inversion, background correction, mean filtering, and automatic thresholding help with different image types.
- Reviewable results: test analysis, detail view, and manual inclusion or exclusion of objects make quality control easier.
- Reproducible analysis: settings can be saved, reused, and documented together with result data.
- Suitable for large images: fast algorithms also support high-resolution images.
- Verifiable workflows: SHA-256 checksums for image files, option files, and results support control analyses.
Will Scientific Counter work with your images?
The key requirements are clearly visible objects and acquisition conditions that are as standardized as possible. If you are unsure, send two to four representative images with a short description of the desired analysis to Datinf. We will check whether analysis with Scientific Counter is feasible.
